Destynee Jiréh Payne hails as an inaugural Legacy Queen representing the future of the Krewe of Athena. As an original “KOA Kid”, she embodies the next generation of women poised to lead the organization forward. Her official journey with the Krewe began in 2022 as part of the Nue Gems class, but her connection to Athena runs far deeper. Throughout her teenage years, Destynee worked alongside her mother, contributing ideas and dedicating countless hours as an unofficial assistant to the Captain of the Krewe. These formative experiences enriched her understanding of the Krewe’s values and solidified her unwavering commitment to its mission, reflecting her growth into an astute and well-rounded woman.
Since becoming a member, Destynee has actively contributed to several key committees, including the Juneteenth, Coronation Ball, Debutante & Princess, Costume, and Communication committees.Her dedication extends further as a proud member of the Stunning Starz Float Krewe, where she has fostered meaningful connections and is known for bridging generational gaps.
A proud New Orleans native, Destynee graduated from Warren Easton Charter High School in 2018 as a recipient of the prestigious Hall of Fame Scholarship. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Clark Atlanta University in 2022 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in communications with a specialization in Journalism Innovation at Syracuse University. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, initiated into the Sweet Alpha Pi Chapter, Destynee exemplifies leadership, service, and scholarship.
Professionally, Destynee possesses a rich blend of creativity, strategic thinking and entrepreneurship. She serves as a Campaign Manager at Publicis Media Group, runs her own beauty brand, and freelances as a content creator and brand manager. Her work with General Motors and as the founder of Pretty Pouch Cosmetics demonstrates her versatility and drive. Because of her unique perspective on marketing, branding, and visual storytelling, she is a highly regarded content creator known across media platforms for inspiring originality and individuality.
Destynee is well-versed in pageantry and Mardi Gras royalty. In 2018, she was presented as a Krewe of Athena Debutante and as a Maid with Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club. She has held the title of Miss Collegiate 100 for the South Metro Chapter of 100 Black Men of America and was crowned Miss HBCU People’s Choice in 2022. In 2021, Destynee was one of three contestants selected to vie for the title of 33rd Miss Clark Atlanta University. "Being chosen as a finalist to represent my alma mater will forever be a pivotal moment for me," she stated. Due to her exceptional work acumen, she currently serves as Assistant Director for the Miss HBCU Teen Scholarship Pageant, viewing pageantry as a platform for personal growth and self-discovery. "It’s not merely about winning," she says. "It’s about discovering your optimal self and radiating from within."
Destynee’s reign has been marked by a strong dedication to empowering others, with her transformative platform built around the inspiring acronym S.P.I.C.E – Spark Passion, Inspire Confidence, and Engage. Her signature events, like the Queen’s Honors and the Level Up Workshops, have proven to be immensely successful in helping individuals gain new skills and recognize their personal achievements. The Queen’s Honors specifically served as a meaningful way to honor the accomplishments of members who have contributed to the organization while the Level Up Workshops have equipped members with the tools they need to thrive.
Additionally, Destynee’s commitment to giving back to the community is exemplified by initiatives such as Queen Cares Day, which brought joy and companionship to the residents of an assisted living facility. Looking ahead, Destynee’s is eagerly preparing for the upcoming Little Miss Athena Pageant, an event aimed at empowering young girls by fostering self-esteem and confidence.
Currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Destynee embraces a variety of passions that reflect her infectious personality and her dedication to living life fully. Whether she's exploring new restaurants, diving into a good book, perfecting her makeup skills, or creating lifestyle content that blends her love of fashion and literature, she is always in pursuit of personal growth. Destynee’s motto, “Shine bright, for you are the star of your own life,” perfectly encapsulates her approach to both her public and personal life. Through her own example, she encourages others to live boldly, take pride in who they are, and shine in their own light, regardless of the challenges they face. Her commitment to authenticity and self-expression is evident in everything she does.
Destynee is the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Damon Payne, Sr. and a devoted big sister to Damon “DJ” Payne, Jr. She is the doting godmother of Kamari Joseph and a proud puppy mom to Cozette Tiffany Payne. Destynee’s family remains her greatest source of inspiration and support, motivating her to pursue her goals with unwavering dedication and purpose.
